Music therapy in dementia care
Music to their Golden Ears...
was devised in 2016 to provide music therapy for older people who had dementia, in residential care.
A 12-week pilot project ran with groups in a nursing home setting in Alton, Hampshire. It was evaluated using the published tool MiDAS
5 levels were assessed:
Improvements were evidenced for each group member on all of the 5 levels.
Taster sessions for care homes:
This evidence has enabled discussions with other care homes around providing group sessions.
Through the Key Changes Dementia Fund, 4 free taster sessions are being provided per home.
Impressed by the responses in these sessions, homes managers are now committing to continuing this music therapy provision through Key Changes.
